AI helps trade businesses most with office work: quotes, enquiries, reports, receipts and texts. It does not replace your craft, but it frees up time for the job itself. Here are seven practical examples for joiners, plumbers, electricians and many other firms in the Vinschgau (Val Venosta) and across South Tyrol.
Office and customers
Much of the time a trade business loses is not on site but at the desk in the evening. This is where AI helps from day one.
1. Drafting quotes
Give the AI your notes from the site visit and get back a well written draft quote. You always check prices and quantities yourself.
2. Sorting enquiries
Enquiries come in by email, form or WhatsApp. AI can summarise them, work out what the customer wants and flag the urgent ones.
3. Managing appointments
An assistant can suggest free slots, send confirmations and remind customers of their appointment. Fewer calls back and forth.
On site and admin
Away from the office, a smartphone and a suitable app are all you need. No complicated new software required.
4. Site reports by voice message
At the end of the day you record a voice message in the van. AI turns it into a tidy report, ready for the customer or your files.
5. Receipts and paperwork
Snap a photo of receipts and delivery notes, and AI reads the key details and prepares them for your bookkeeping. Nothing goes missing.
Visibility and languages
If you do good work, people should see it, ideally in both of the local languages.
6. Social posts from photos
Take a photo of the finished job and AI suggests a caption for Instagram or Facebook. You choose, edit and post. That keeps your profile active even in the busiest weeks.
7. German and Italian translations
In South Tyrol many customers speak the other language. AI translates emails, quotes and website copy in seconds. A quick read through is still worth it.
Mind your data
When you use AI, think about what you put in. Customers' personal data and confidential information need care. Choose suitable tools, set clear rules for your team and remember that since 2025 the EU AI Act expects anyone using AI to have adequate skills. Our tip: start with a single example, try it for a few weeks and then expand. Our guide to Article 4 of the EU AI Act explains more.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be good with computers to use AI?
No. Many tools work with plain sentences or voice messages. With a little practice and a good introduction you are up and running quickly.
Does AI make mistakes?
Yes, it can. That is why you always check prices, measurements and key details yourself before sending anything.
Can I get funding for the training?
Training may qualify for the provincial grant for micro businesses. Conditions change, so we check it with you in the first call.
